SkyTrac is building another lift at Crystal Mountain, MI in 2013 per their ad in SAM.

Any idea where the lift would go? I'm assuming this would be a replacement of an existing chair, since there is not really a logical area in which to expand? The only lift worth replacing in my estimation would be the uncomfortable and relatively old Cheers double chair. Maybe the Buck quad chair (Riblet center-pole), but capacity would be reduced, which wouldn't make much sense there.

local rumor is that they had the old Loki CTEC Triple re-engineered and it will be replacing Cheers and that Buck would be replaced with new in '14.

Word on the street is a new lift is going to be built in Burke Mountain's East Bowl. Previously, it was thought the old Willoughby quad (1980's era CTEC) would be repurposed to this part of the mountain. However, it sounds like the mountain's new ownership wants to build something new and potentially make it a HSQ. If this comes to fruition, Burke will have gone from no HSQ to the summit, to having two built within three years. If the Willoughby quad remains in its current place, they will have three quads to the summit (although it is doubtful all three would run at the same time).

Murphys law says the first time I have something good to announce the website goes down for a week and I get scooped. Anyway, the first lift that they're going to put in on Blackcomb since I started there 18 years ago is an 18 year old poma :crying:

We are going to take the controls out of the old Crystal and put them in Olympic, and that will mean we have a huge pile of old Yan controls to get rid of.

Any reason WB has never put the lifts in on the lines cut up the right side of Creekside? Those lines (at least the trails and I also think lines) were cut at least 15 years ago?

Rob,

I meant up towards west bowl. Actually decided to try and answer my own questions ans looked that the master plan and it still shows future plans for that area, just wondering why it has taken so long. I first skied those runs when they were un-patrolled semi-inbounds when I was in uni in the mid 90's. I love WB and remember skiing 7th as a t-bar. Times were good then when every year one or the other mountains would put in a new lift and open new terrain. Since they merged I can not help but feel the rate of innovation has slowed and the mountains have become a bit stale. P2P is a perfect example as it is a signature lift but really does nothing to add to what can be skied or reduce the speed stuff gets skied out. Sadly I must admit I am now a bit more pulled to Revelstoke and Kicking Horse as they feel fresher.

Anyway just my 2 cents (future 5 cents???),

Doug

There is a plan to put lifts into the Khyber area you're referring to, but visit numbers would need to increase to see a return on investment there. The operating costs increase substantially when that amount of terrain is more easily accessible so the business case needs to be pretty good. The reality is vitually all of WB's tenure is currently accessible, so you only really get access improvements with new lifts. Having said that, more high alpine terrain will be necessary for us in the future. The runs there are pretty sweet if its a big snow day or they've been groomed, so will be great when it happens.

Is it confirmed that the old Harmony Express will be reused on Blackcomb or is there a possibility of that being a new lift as well?

Stevens Pass is going to replace the Jupiter FGQ with a Dopp HSQ. Sigh. Would rather have seen that money go to opening up the Grace Lakes pod.

This just in...
Jay Peak's plans for the Doppelmayr "Power Line" HS6 lift and removal of the Bonneventure quad have been released on Vermont's Act 250 site. The new HS6 will have 19 towers and two terminals.
Overlaid in Google Earth:
The Power Line lift will run up the Powerline trail and end under the Face Chute.

The yet to be built Stateside Lodge/Hotel is the brown building. The green building is the chair storage barn. The current Stateside lodge (to be town down) is visible in the aerial imagery under the far end of the new lodge. The Bonneventure chair base terminal is under the near side of the new lodge.

From the Sky House:

Roughly the view from the Tram as it passes over. The bank cut between the Face Chute and the lift terminal is going to be pretty substantial, like 30-36 feet tall (the dark area behind the terminal is created by 18 tighly spaced 2ft contours on the plan):

Check Aussierob's earlier post about Crystal becoming an 18-year-old Poma

Rob- I don't know about the electronics on a '94 TB lift, but the mechanical side is pretty bomber. One of the reasons my '86 is, quote, 'at the bottom of the replacement list'. What's going into Harmony as a replacement?

I think you did mention American Flyer recently getting mechanical upgrades?

Someone mentioned in an earlier post an HSS will go on the Harmony line.

I must say that the "Crystal Express" plan will make the Crystal Hut pod more accessible, and not require people to trek back to the Excelerator Express after each run.

Ropeways.net is reporting that Red Dog lift at Squaw Valley will be replaced with a sixpack. No supplier named, there is,however, a link to the enviromental application for the project.

That will guarantee Squaw Valley as having most HSSes in a single American ski resort.

To be honest, I don't know if Red Dog can support the traffic of a HSS unless it has a low hourly capacity.

I'd think an HSQ would be able to handle such a slope, though.

HSS has a heavier chair, less closure, if wind is an issue....
