It seems like there is a big push in the industry as a whole to get rid of yan lifts of that vintage. This year we have seen 4 of them removed. Two of which are being replaced with similar lifts. There is also last year when silver star replaced silver queen with another fixed quad. It seems as though Janek's statement about his lifts being 20 year lifts is really coming into play.

Uni-G Fixed - 1 Lift (Mont Saint Sauveur. I'm not sure the actual name of this model, it is the fixed drive terminal with the Uni-G cladding.)
As for chairs, it appears to be about a 5 to 1 ratio of EJ chairs to "Vail" chairs this year so far. I thought the EJ ones were going to be discontinued in 2003?

For Saint-Sauveur, do you have any pictures of what the completed drive terminal will look like aside from the picture on their website? Any news of whether it will use EJ chairs or a newer design like the Garaventa chairs? Most of the chairs there are either the older Bail style or the EJ.

Hey Skier,
Asleep at the switch here. The Kadenwood lift has been moved to next year. Also sounds like the creekside olympic lift may be a detachable. No final decisision yet though.

They ordered the lift late. Besides the towers, bullwheels, and motor room, the lifts there. :w00t: The conveyor and loading gates are currently being installed. They have the talent there to finish, if they get parts. I could see a HS on Disciples, because of relative chair length and company-owned real estate developments there.

Was the Boyne Mountain Meadows Lift a "planned" replacement. It seems odd since it there was really no announcement ahead of time, the lift was ordered very late, and they didn't even really begin any foundation work until August. Did they find some major mechanical issues with the old Meadows left that left to the abrupt replacement.

I think its funny how they boast about the carpet system, yet that lift doesn't really serve any beginner terrain. The Meadows lift is a very underutilized lift on that part of the hill.

The timeline per the Boyne website:
December 20, 2008: Target opening date!
December 19, 2008: Target load test date
December 17, 2008: Chair installation date
December 14, 2008: Cable installation date
November 21 - December 10, 2008: Bull wheel installation, top and bottom terminal completion.
October 8, 2008: Lifting towers!
August 20, 2008: Footings are in
August 7, 2008: First 2 foundations poured + lift materials are also starting to arrive

----
That is a lot of work late into the season. Generally you don't want to be doing that type of work once winter kicks in! That is a lot of heavy lifting for this late in the season, and the snow is already flying. Heck, the ski area is opening this Friday.

Talk about a short construction schedule, this blog from Seven Oaks in Iowa has followed construction of their used Riblet triple:

October 21: Broke Ground
October 27: Bottom terminal up
October 30: All tower foundations done
November 4: Top terminal, tower 1 up

Grouse Mountains Green Way and Peak chairs are finally finished. Apparently they been having issues with them for the past week or so. Green Way was open for an hour, then closed due to "Maintenance Issues". Apparently these two VERY SHORT lifts are supposed to help reduce their hour long lift lines. Bad move in my opinion.

All that talk about Whistler and the media getting it wrong, and here's, if I'm not mistaken, another testament to that:

NEW Skye Peak Express Opens Friday!
Six months of hard work is about to pay
off as the New Skye Peak Express opens on Friday, providing access to some of Killington’s best uninterrupted terrain and The Stash terrain park. Moving at more than 1,400 feet per minute, the Skye Peak Express will deliver you from the base of Bear Mountain to the top of Skye Peak in less than
five minutes!

Apparently now average HSQs can go 16 mph. Hmmm.

Rather than it being a 5 minute ride like they claim it would be more like a 3 +1/2 minute ride at 1400 fpm. I would most definitely bet money that it's the standard 1,000 fpm (5.08 mps).

Well, the new back bowl at Welch Village, MN has finally opened, although, curiously, only from Thursdays through Sundays. Check out the following link for pictures and more details...
