With the quoted vertical it would have to be Bohemia, but the description and lift doesn't look right. Lusten?

Lift pictured is not in MN or MI, nor does it fit any profile in I am aware of....if its really from the midwest ??.... I suppose one of the Black Hills areas or one of the Thunder Bay areas may be a bit closer to specs?

Not Thunder Bay. Neither of the two Thunder Bay ski areas is over 800 feet vertical.

I think there's a good chance Haystack in VT will be building something this summer. For now they're still talking Chondola. So far the new owner has been spending a lot of cash.

And from the Bear Mountain Ski Hill website (Dawson Creek BC)....

"We are currently doing fundraising to install the new Dopplymeyr ski lift in 2012."

Mystery solved; It's the Empress lift at Terry Peak, SD. It was actually installed in 1975 which is what threw me off. I'm guessing it will be replaced with a Doppelmayr detachable quad next summer.

Well, this seems to make it official...

It does indeed sound like it will be a quad chairlift.

http://www.stltoday....19bb30f31a.html

WILDWOOD • The Hidden Valley ski area in Wildwood will embark on a $2 million expansion this summer, marking the largest investment in its nearly 30-year history.
Only 45 acres of Hidden Valley's 250-acre property currently can be skied. After the expansion, the skiing terrain will increase by 30 percent, including the addition of a nearly 2,000-foot ski run. The ski area's longest ski run now is about 1,500 feet.
While the skiing area will increase, the expansion won't expand Hidden Valley's existing boundaries.
Wildwood-based Peak Resorts, which owns Hidden Valley, will add a four-person chairlift and snow-making equipment as part of the expansion, with all of the improvements completed by the start of the next ski season.
Skiers and snowboarders also will have new menu items to choose from. Peak Resorts plans to spend $500,000 on expanding its dining area, which has mostly remained unchanged since Hidden Valley opened in December 1982.
Food and beverage offerings helped drive sales at Peak Resorts' 12 ski areas nationwide in the company's most recent fiscal year that ended April 30.
After the expansion is completed, Hidden Valley will add about 20 jobs, said Tim Boyd, Peak Resort's chief executive and president. Hidden Valley currently employs more than 200 people.
Boyd said Peak Resorts is investing in Hidden Valley to meet the demand from an increased number of visitors who are coming from outside the St. Louis area. Hidden Valley had 84,100 visitors in fiscal year 2011.
"We're becoming much more of a regional destination, and we're getting a lot more people from Memphis, Mississippi and other areas," he said. "We're by far the closest to them than any other ski area."
The mild weather this year has caused visitors to Hidden Valley to decline more than 20 percent this ski season. But Boyd said he takes a long-term view of his business, and the mild weather won't stand in the way of his expansion plans.
Peak Resorts has invested heavily in snow-making equipment and facility improvements at Hidden Valley in recent years, but it has faced controversy over its expansion plans. In 2008, Boyd threatened to close the ski area in a dispute with Wildwood city officials after the city attempted to impose a $252,000 fee related to a "green space" ordinance tied to new development.
The city ultimately approved plans for a new tubing run, parking lot and maintenance facility in 2010, and Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther said he's happy to see Hidden Valley expanding again.
"Given the state of the economy overall, it's great to see a company add employees," Woerther said. "I and the city recognize the value of Hidden Valley and what they bring to the area."

I believe it's the quad they're removing from Crotched to put in Ascutney's HSQ. Before it was at Crotched it was at Cherokee, VA.

Ahh...That makes sense. I figured that they wouldn't buy a new quad. They said in a local paper that we got today that it would cost $750,000 for the runs/lighting/snowmaking, $750,000 for the lift, and they are spending $500,000 on the restaurant.

It was also reported that the lift will be 1,700 feet long, which is quite a bit longer than the longest one there now.

I was out skiing at Hidden Valley today, in the daylight this time, so I took some pictures of where the lift will go. I will try to post them soon.

There was some staking done earlier in the fall, probably one where each tower will go. I have taken some pictures from the top of the new liftline and will post those too.

My sources are telling me that the venerable East Double, New England's longest operating double chairlift, will be replaced this summer. It will be replaced by a triple (parts of the Monadnock triple from Wachusett along with chairs from Cranmore's Lookout Triple), and will begin somewhere near the junction of Tommy's Trail and Beginner's Luck, extending back to the summit somewhere between Koessler and Artist Falls.

Terry Peak and Wharf Resources plan ski resort, mining expansion

Expansion is in the works for Terry Peak, as Wharf Resources prepares to expand mining operations in the area, eventually deeding land over to the ski resort to extend several ski runs once mining is complete.
The first phase of the plan includes replacing the Empress double chairlift with a new high-speed Doppelmayr detachable quad chairlift this summer. The lift will be provided by Wharf Resources and will be named the Gold Corp Express, after Wharf Resources affiliate Goldcorp.
Mining will take place from mainly 2014 to 2015 and will not interfere with summer or winter recreation.
In 2017, Goldcorp will begin reclamation, giving reclaimed land to Terry Peak to extend several ski runs.

Seems like a pretty good deal for the ski area due to funds for HSQ. The video claims the ski area vertical will increase to 1500' but only by riding two liftfs. They seond lift seems a little odd and may be delayed or never happen.

Speaking of dirt moving, I was at Calgary Olympic Park yesterday. They have the bottom terminal and a bunch of towers up for the new HSQ. But they're still moving a lot of dirt up top to increase the vertical. There's a big housing developement being built up top, which is where they're getting the dirt from. Looks like maybe an extra 50 feet so far. At any rate, it's pretty obvious the lift won't be ready for this season.

Word has been spreading around like wildfire today at Snowbird (Utah) that the Little Cloud double lift will be replaced with a detachable quad this summer, with a 90 degree unload at the top. Supposedly the lift has been ordered already and it's a done deal, but I don't know which manufacturer.

Is Terry Peak owned by Wharf Resources?

I noticed that Terry Peak is owned by the "Black Hills Chairlift Co.", but I'm wondering if it's actually a subsidiary of Wharf Resources.

It now sounds like Snowbird has also ordered a detachable quad to replace Gad 2, and that will be installed in the summer of 2013. I've heard that both of these new lifts will be from Doppelmayr.

Mt Buller in the state of Victoria, Australia is installing a new fixed grip quad chair that is due to open in June.

It replaces the aptly named Burnt Hut triple chair that was destroyed in a lightning strike two years ago. The lift takes a slightly different route and services novice and easy green slopes, so it's fairly short at 530 metres (1740 feet) long.

From the Spirit Mountain, MN Facebook page:

"Thanks to everyone for a very interesting winter! It's always a sad day when we close down the Chalet and the Lifts for the summer. But the Adventure Park is still open daily through the end of March and will be open all summer! If we don't see you up at the Adventure Park, we'll see you next fall... on the NEW Chairliftand in the NEW Chalet!"
Guess they got that funding approved! It's apparently a new HSQ to replace the Spirit Express on a slightly different line. Anyone know if it's L-P or Dopp?
