Sugarloaf may be installing a new high speed quad to replace King pine with different allignment. King Pine will be relocated and replace The Double Runner Chairs

Glen Eden Ski Area, Milton Ontario is currently going through the approvals process to look at replacing the Boomerang Chair, a 30 year old fixed grip Triple. The replacement will most likely be a fixed grip Quad. Manufacturer unknown. The project will be done in the summer of 2012.

Squaw Valley appears to be planning to install two detachable lifts (replacing Granite Cheif and High Camp, a triple chair replacing Links and two new surface lifts. More details at http://unofficialnet...proposal-30849/

Look at the Squaw plan document closely and it looks like Mainline, Newport and the Pulse are also to be removed, guess scrap prices are high enough that the lifts are finally coming out of vertical storage.

Newport has been listed for sale in SAM for awhile - not there any more. That would be a good lift for someone as it is very low hours.
Pulse is now listed...probably take as long as the old gondola to sell :devil: :dry:

New quad at Mt Buller, Victoria, Australia to be built December 2011 to March 2012.

Burnt Hut was the triple chair serving a green run that was zapped by lightning 18 months ago. It was removed and temporarily replaced with carpets for the 2010 and 2011 ski seasons

Despite saying they are shopping around, the lift will almost certainly be a Dopp as Buller has installed over 20 Dopp chairs and only one Poma chair.

Plans paint a solid picture for Burnt Hut Chairlift
BURNT Hut Chairlift on Mt Buller will be rebuilt following the receipt of formal planning approval.

Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) began work last year on the planning approval process to replace the old Burnt Hut Chairlift, decommissioned in 2010 following a dramatic lightning strike to the lower drive station, and subsequent fire.

A recommendation will be presented to the Buller Ski Lifts Board for its consideration this month.

Subject to satisfying all planning permit conditions and obtaining the BSL Board's approval Mt Buller may see work on the new lift under way within a matter of months and the possibility of a new Burnt Hut Chairlift in operation for the winter of 2012.

Buller Ski Lifts general manager, Laurie Blampied, said it's been an involved process to replace the Burnt Hut Chairlift and it is heartening to have the formal planning approval.

"The proposed new lift will be a terrific addition to our northern slopes and there will be many skiers who are looking forward to getting back into that great terrain with the assistance of a new lift in the area," Mr Blampied said.

"We have long term plans to regenerate this important part of the resort with more snowmaking, new chair lifts as well as the replacement of the old surface lifts with user friendly carpet lifts as well," he said.

"The Burnt Hut Spur and Northside precinct is a vital piece of our resort infrastructure that has been recognised in the recently approved resort master plan.

"This is an exciting development for the tens of thousands of day visitors we welcome each year."

Preliminary design work for the new chairlift is completed and quotations have been received from the two major ski lift manufacturing companies, Doppelmayr and Poma.

The proposed new lift will be a fixed-grip quad chair with a top drive station spanning 530m up the northern slopes of the mountain with a vertical rise of 135m.

It will take a slightly different footprint to its predecessor but will fill the gap created by the loss of the chairlift that carried thousands of day visitors up the popular Burnt Hut Spur area during its 30 years of operations.

The proposed new top station will be relocated approximately 50m to the west of the previous Burnt Hut top station located near Spurs.

It is envisaged the new station location will work better and relieve congestion and facilitate better traffic flows in this area.

The new bottom station for the proposed lift is located approximately 300m to the west of the old base station near the start of the Klingsporn walking track.

The primary design considerations around the new lift alignment were to improve safety and the visitor experience while preserving the natural environment.

"These design criteria have been achieved removing the lift towers from the Burnt Hut Spur ski run, increasing the lift capacity by 33 per cent, increasing the length of the main run and opening up additional terrain for skiers and boarders in this very popular area of the resort," Mr Blampied said.

"The new lift will have an efficient electric top drive to replace the noisy old diesel drive that powered the previous lift.

"All of this will be achieved with the minimum loss of native vegetation and very strict to preserve and enhance the native vegetation in the resort."

The Burnt Hut Chairlift will be the third chairlift built at Mt Buller since 2005.

Vail, CO – Officials at Colorado’s Vail Mountain have already begun making plans for the ski resort’s 50th anniversary in December 2012, by announcing the planned installation of a new, state-of-the art gondola to replace the Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16) inVail Village.


The new gondola, which will have the number “1” to commemorate Vail’s original gondola in that location, will provide a 40 percent improvement in uphill capacity over the existing Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16) – the highest of any gondola in North America. The state-of-the-art gondola, the first installation of its kind in North America, will offer new features, such as free Wi-Fi access for guests.


“We could think of no better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vail Mountain than by making a dramatic investment to improve the experience for our guests. The new gondola will set a standard for how we transport guests up the mountain, significantly reducing wait times at one of the most popular and recognized lifts anywhere in the world. It will also offer a protected and comfortable ride, complete with free Wi-Fi access,” said Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “The new gondola continues a long tradition of Vail’s investments to set the leading position in guest service anywhere in the mountain resort industry.”


“The new gondola in Vail Village will provide the final touch to Vail’s multi-billion dollar renaissance over the past decade, which has been the result of an incredible partnership between Vail Resorts, the Town of Vail and the entire Vail community,” said Andy Daly, mayor of the Town of Vail and the former top executive at Vail Resorts-owned Beaver Creek. “These investments have ensured Vail’s leadership position in the resort industry for many years to come.”


The new gondola will be located in the same location as the existing lift and will reach the same location at Mid-Vail. The Vista Bahn express is a high-speed quad lift that was installed in 1985. The gondola is proposed to be installed in the spring and summer of 2012 and be operational for opening day of the 2012-13 ski season, just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vail.


The base lift facility will be similar to the existing equipment but instead of chairs hanging from a cable, there will be gondola cabins. Unlike the Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19) in Lionshead, which is an enclosed facility, the new gondola base station will be an open air terminal


The new gondola is subject to Town of Vail and U.S. Forest Service approval. Additional details on the design will be announced in the coming months.

The idea of adding Wi-Fi to a lift is quite dumb in my mind. It only makes sense to offer this service to someone who desires to read a book all day while they mask the background noise with Pandora.

It's common sense that those who probably 'would' use the Wi-Fi already have the capability to check their email or download a song directly through their 3G/4G smartphone.

What's next, heated seats? Oh wait, that's been done already.

Killington tried the music thing in their Skyeship gondola. But it never worked very well. I think they gave up on it pretty quickly. It will be interesting to see how well the wifi works.

The Jordanelle gondola at Deer Valley was advertised as having radios in the cabins, but that didn't happen either. There's a place for it up in the roof, but either it was never installed or it doesn't work

Well, if nothing else, my counterparts over the pass can quit throwing parts at an old, high-hour installation. Winter and summer since '85 will certainly wear out a lift. I don't envy their sparkies having to deal with wi-fi in the cabins, though.
