I don't think the ski area has the money to do that project right now after having a few bad seasons in a row.

I'm hoping it will be built soon but there just aren't that many people going to Willamette Pass these days like there weas in 2001 and 2002.

Oh, Ontariodude, the Alpine Meadows does not go from the top of the Mid Tee, the lift was taken out this summer.

Oh, the Silver Star website never said anything about that. :cursing:

Does anybody know where the Alpine Meadows Quad starts then? I really don't think it's from the top of Home Run T-Bar like what was said before it just doesn't make any sense to put it there. From the village to Attridge or summit area would make more sense. Anybody know?

Thanks for the correction WBSKI

Add to New lifts List for summer 2006:

A new Magic Carpet at Devil's Glen Ski Club in Glen Huron Ontario.
Devil's Glen is a private ski club near Collingwood Ontario.

The new Magic Carpet replaces a Platter Lift. vertical and length of lift unknown.

Today as i was refueling in Ft. Bridger, Wyo, i-80
I saw a drop deck trailer park. On the trailer peices and parts of a chair lift, bullwheel, foot rest, and a few chairs. SO i asked the driver where's the bullwheel going? Think i caught him by surprise, most truckers dont knwow aht a bullwheel is used for.
Any way his reply was , he's headed for Qubec. I asked, did ya load in SLC Dopplemey/ CTEC? He said yes sir. I thought slc only built the chairs, and the termenal skins? No tbullwheels.

SLC has a jig for bullwheels now...strictly fixed grip I think. They also have a machine that can make chairs. We did a tour of the place again this spring and it was amazing how much it's changed from the year before. I think everything detachable related comes from St. Jerome unless it's a european model

Does SLC actually willing to give tours? If they do, I'd love to go see sometime.

Yes, I think they closed there when the expanded SLC a few years ago. Now they also have an office in Arvada, Colorado and Kelowna, British Columbia.

They closed the plant in CA after the merger. They closed the doppemayr wherehouse and sales office in golden CO too. The company replaced both with a large plant and wherehouse in SLC and a small office in Arvada CO.
I think the one piece bull wheels with the cat hubs are built in SLC but I could be wrong. St Jerome tends to be where the detach stuff is built but more of it could be moving to SLC since so much of their business is out west.

I live in SLC, I will call the company for the tour, and if they do, I will ask them to allow me to take the pictures and I will post them.

I'd hope that you could get in...but they might not offer tours to "public" due to insurance reasons. Good luck and have fun if you get the tour!

While I was able to get a tour of the facility when I was there, it was very limited of where I could go because Jan Leonard wasn't around to give a full tour okay. I did see where all the eletrical stuff was made and the lift yard, but none of the fabrication bays where the towers, terminals, etc are made. There is a bay for each one of thsoe types of items.

Big White's Big Lift
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Construction of Canada's longest six-person chairlift is nearing completion.

Work on Big White's new Snow Ghost Express, at the base of the Ridge began in earnest last April, a day after the resort shut down.

The concrete for the base towers was put in place in August and the second phase got under way Tuesday with the installation of the towers.

A heavy duty Bell helicopter from Chilliwack was brought in for the job.

Chief pilot Kerry Kokoszka of Transwest Helicopters, says he's disassembled ski lifts before, but this was his first assembly job.

"I haven't assembled any ski towers, but about a month ago we disassembled one in Kimberley, so it should be interesting."

Kokoszka says accuracy is the key to pulling off the job.

"The wind will cause the aircraft to move around. Another important factor is keeping the helicopter stable because there's always a danger for the ground crews. It's a bit of a high stress job."

Kokoska lifted the 20 towers Tuesday with the heaviest one weighing in at more than 5,000 pounds -- maxing out the helicopter's lift.

The man in charge of making everything run smoothly on the ground is Pat Boyle of Leitner-Poma. He says there was a lot of prep-work involved before the towers could be installed.

"We spent months doing the concrete and assembling the steel. After the towers are up, we have to install the haul-rope. And the end of the month, we should have everything set up and ready for a test. If all goes according to plan, the lift will be up and running by November and all we'll need is the snow."

Once the Snow Ghost Express is up and going, it will be able to handle up to 5,400 skiers per hour or 10 passengers every seven seconds. The lift will also be the longest six-passenger chair in Canada - nearly 6200 feet long and will have a ride time of less than six minutes.

Chairlifts don't come cheap. Big White's Michael J. Ballingall says it comes with a $7 million price tag. But he says the extra expense is worth it.

"The record breaking number of guests during our Christmas, Presidents Week and Spring Break periods clearly indicated that we had to expand our existing carrying capacity, especially in the highest-traffic area of the Ridge ski pod. The Snow Ghost Express will definitely reduce the wait times to a minimum during these busy periods," says Michael J. Ballingall.

Snow permitting, Big White should be open by November 23.

Umm.. 5400 skiers per hour!? 10 Passengers every 7 seconds? They must be talking about Snow Ghost combined with Ridge Rocket. Those are some crazy numbers.

Mike, could you clarify this because I can't see how this is possible either. The Quicksilver Express at Breckenridge, CO has a maximum capacity of 4000 pph, but only runs at 3600 pph right now.

I think it's 2400 pph for the HSQ and 3000 pph for the HSS, so then it really is 10 people every seven seconds- 4 from the HSQ and 6 from the HSS.

Trust the marketing guys, or it may be out of context, but that would be the capacity of both lifts combined.
