Possible new lifts for Summer 2006

vons's Photo vons 09 Jun 2006

Could it be that it is an 80' era Doppelmayr with a gusseted style top plate on the tower tubes ends that is attempting to be connect to a mid 90's Poma cross arm that doesn’t utilize a gusseted top plate connection? Most likely it is easier and faster to have L-P manufacture new cross arms that will work with the old tubes than modify either the tubes in field or the existing cross arms in a shop. Plus I am sure that L-P or ASC can easily reuse the old ones elsewhere.

I guess the tower tubes are staying at The Canyons then. Does Doppelmayr CTEC still use this type of tower tube for six packs?

...plus the reporter a) can't spell and b) doesn't know what a 'hangar' (sp) is on a skilift. New quad-guage towerheads would make sense, though.

Skier, you accidently left out the new pulse gondola at The Canyons that's being built by the Miner's Club.

I'm not sure if it's official or not, but it appears that Snowmass might be also building a beginner HSQ at the top of the new gondola in the Elk Camp area. If you look at the newest trail map for Snowmass, the lift line for the lift is in red rather than that mustard orange color.

Snowmass is putting in a carpet lift at the top of the Gondola. The HSQ planned for this area will be installed in the future.

The projects this summer are the Poma 8-passenger Elk Camp gondola and Poma fixed grip quad for Assay Hill.

Also, I asked this question before and got no response. Does anyone have any information on what happened to the Dopplemayr Six-Pack proposed for Snow Valley, Running Springs, CA?

I was getting skeptical if marquette mountain was going to install the new lift. So I sent them an Email. And it reads:

Quote

Are you guys still planning on installing a new lift there this
summer? Rumor has it of a new lift called snowfield. any info would be
apppreciated.

JJ

And this is the reply I got:

Thanks for the inquiry.

Yes there will be a new triple chair going up on Snowfield. It will
replace the old one. The process of putting up the new lift has
already
begun.

Jesie

So it is indeed true that there will be a new lift for marquette mountain. Although it will not be new in the sence that it is used and will replace a lift that is already there.

I presume after this years bad ski season in southern California, that Snow Valley has put the project on hold.

I was visiting back in Ohio and while passing by the ski area I used to frequent, they were taking delivery of a used triple. I'm not sure where the chair is from, but I'm sure someone could identify the chair:

The ski area is Mad River Mountain (even though it is only 250 vertical feet) in Belfountaine, Ohio.

The chair looks very similar to the Borvig triple which was removed from Berthoud Pass, CO (now closed/ cleared) but last I heard that lift (Mines Peak) went to Kansas City where it had not yet been reinstalled.

So that would be a Borvig.

It might be the same lift too. Some ski areas have purchased lifts hoping to install them and then decided or not to or couldn't. Mt. Ashland is a good example. It purchased Mt. Hood Meadows' former Shooting Star lift and then enviromentalists shot the new expansion down, so 49 Degrees North purchased the lift from Mt. Ashland after it has been sitting in storage for 8 years.

It is the same lift in most if not all designs:

So it would be possible for it to be bethoud passes old triple.

It is indeed the lift from Berthoud Pass. By the way, the Borvig quad from Berthoud went to Berkshire East in Massachusettes.

I also swung thru Mad River Mtn over the 4th and saw this lift. I didnt do anymore than a slow drive-by, but I noticed the sheave wheels said LEITNER on them. I am assuming that the lift was a Borvig/Leitner child then, the same age as the Borvig/Leitner Highspeed at Spirit Mt.(Late 80's??)

That makes sense, this lift was built at Berthoud Pass in 1989.

There are two things to be considered here

When berthoud pass came back out of being dormant for a while, the borvig lifts were vandalized. Leitner was the company used to fix up these lifts so that they could go back into operation.

Most if not all borvig lifts use leitner designed sheave wheels. I believe it was said earlier that there wwas an agreement between the two companies. This also explains the leitner borvig crossover lifts like the one at spirit.

Yes, the Berthoud Pass Borvigs were Borvig/Leitner. They worked together to make a Cadillac - Borvig was hoping to use it as a demo to get more Colorado business.
