New Lifts 2014

Deer Valley is talking about building a gondola between the top part of Main Street in Park City (the Wasatch Brew Pub parking lot) and somewhere in Silver Lake Village. This has come up before, but it sounds promising from this article in the Park Record. Doppelmayr is not surprisingly mentioned as the likely manufacturer.
I had been wondering what DV would do now, since most of the obvious expansion terrain nearby is now used and they now have a high speed quad everywhere they could possibly need one. This would certainly be a newsworthy addition to get them back to their Ski magazine number 1. It would be great for all the Silver Lake vistors, since it's a tough drive in the snow to get back to town, and there's not much going on up there at night. Looking at the map of the area though, I have no idea where they would put the line. It's all private land, but there are a lot of houses on the straight line between the top of Main Street and Silver Lake that they would have to talk to. It might take two angle stations to avoid enough houses to make it happen. There isn't a whole lot of room at either end for a terminal. They said it could be done by 2014-15, but the devil is in the details. I'd file this one under 'pipe dreams' for now

I'm surprised that Bear Valley is still pursuing this after the recent hardship it went through last summer where it had to lay off the majority of its staff, including lift maintenance.

From the article
"The partnership is now actively at work securing the capital needed to fund the planned expansion"
I once had the pleasure of having the difference of wages and capital expenditures explained to me while being temporarily laid off by a GM.

Supposedly it won't be installed until the 2014-2015 season, although for all I know it could take place this summer.

I'm very happy to hear about this. I love those old center-pole Riblets, so I'm glad to know it will live on. I'm sure Mt. Spokane is excited to get it for their expansion, too.

Is this lift change happening in 13 or 14? I checked both their website and facebook page and there is no mention of it for this summer. When they replaced Little Cloud, it was discussed every step of the way. Just wonderning.

I just saw the announcement on Snowbird's website yesterday. The lift is going in this summer (13).
