Snow report shows 3 lifts open, but Web Cam doesn't look like you can ski down to River Run.
Whats' open?

The platter... Kokomo.. Wasn't she taken down back in the 90s?

Yes, downloading on RRG at the mid station. That was on of the reasons that Keystone got a mid station. Before it was gondola up and laps on Montezuma followed by top download on the gondola. And in case of a wind event Summit would be the go to lift for uploading AND downloading. With 50% downloading and having guests remove equipment and carry would be a $hit show.

Kokomo is version 3.0, the platter was replaced with a Magic Carpet (circa 2000) but there was no tunnel. A Sunkid with a tunnel was installed (circa 2004) in place of Magic Carpet 2.

Keystone can run just the lower portion of the gondola (base to mid-station)? I didn't think they could.

That is not what 2milehi stated. He said they load 100% uphill to the top and when there is not enough snow on the lower mountain- early season- they can ski to the mid station and down load.

Correct that is what he said, but he talked about this addressing a wind event that made Summit Express the alternative. From my perspective the addition of the mid-station doesn't change anything at all since the upper and lower portions cannot operate independent of each other. If winds prevent the gondola from operating at the top, then the mid-station would be closed as well, and Summit express would still have to be used.

Now does my question make more sense?

I think the addition of the mid-station was for other reasons- the addition of a beginner teaching hill at mid-station and to reduce demand on Montezuma allowing uploading here so more could avoid the overcrowded River Run trail. Prior to this all of the downhill traffic heading to the Gondola and Summit express basically ended up on River Run.

I haven't been able to hit the slopes in a number of years because of my health. The last time I skied the stone was right before they replaced the awesome Von Roll RRG. At that time, there had been talk of possibly upgrading Summit Express to a HSS in addition to the increased capacity that new RR would offer. Has anything else come the possible upgrade to SE?

Just to clear up any misunderstandings, when River Run Gondola runs all three stations have to run. The drive is at the top, the bottom is the return, and the mid station is along for the ride.

Capacity was not increased with the new Doppelmayr gondola at Keystone. A full complement of cabins on the Von Roll gondola had the same people per hour capacity as does the Doppelmayr gondola.

I have never heard of converting Summit Express to a six pack. That is a major upgrade with replacing the top and bottom terminals and at a minimum replace the tower cross arms. There is no ROI by doing this upgrade. It won't happen.

Thank you, old chap. I hope this is the year I can make it back. Trying to get my bad foot to cooperate and am working out hard trying to drop the weight I put on when I had the bad MRSA infection in my foot and had to have several surgeries. it's been quite the challenge.
